Today’s song was the second biggest single in the UK when it was released in 1984. “Relax” by Frankie Goes To Hollywood was a huge worldwide hit, reaching number ten in the US and number one in the UK. It was beat out for the title of bestselling record of the year in Britain by Band Aid’s “Do They Know It’s Christmas,” which Frankie Goes To Hollywood’s lead singer, Holly Johnson, was featured in.
There was lots of controversy about “Relax” when it was released and it was quickly banned by BBC radio, but the song still hit the top of the charts anyway and the ban was eventually lifted. The original video for the song was banned as well in both Britain and the United States and a second, less suggestive video was filmed. Here is the second video for Frankie Goes To Hollywood’s “Relax.” If you want to see the first version, well, you have to find that for yourself. ☺
Enjoy!
