Have you seen those commercials where they take clips of music’s superstars and make it look like they’re all on the same stage playing together? Well, this is from 1968 and it’s the real deal! When i was a kid, i’d occasionally see posters of The Rolling Stones’ Rock & Roll Circus, and i’d wonder what it was all about. It was filmed in 1968 and originally planned as a television special. However, shortly after filming it was shelved for fear the The Who had upstaged The Rolling Stones! When it was finally released in 1998, i had to run right out and buy it as it was a bit of a Holy Grail kind of thing!
This is one of the best moments with John Lennon singing the as-yet-unreleased Yer Blues from “The White Album“, backed by an all-star cast of musicians. Namely, Eric Clapton on lead guitar, Mitch Mitchell of The Jimi Hendrix Experience on drums AND the one and only Keith Richards on bass! Enjoy.

By the way, while The Who’s performance is fantastic, The Stones are in fine form as well…
