“I Only Have Eyes For You” is both one of the best songs ever written and possibly the most romantic. The Flamingos‘ version speaks to me on so many levels. First, as a fan of music, i just adore it. Second, as an appreciator of the craft of songwriting, it’s an amazing piece of work with it’s subtle changes and perfect pace. Third, from a production standpoint, the reverb is used to haunting effect, rendering it a classic the first time the needle hit the wax and ensuring it’s timelessness. Yes, it sounds like an old song, and it is an old song, but it will be around much longer than anything your favorite station is playing right now (unless of course, it’s playing this song)! Originally written in 1934 by composer Harry Warren and lyricist Al Dubin for the film Dames, let’s check out a few different versions!
